Star Stuff Theatre presents We Wrote These Plays Today, an evening of new play exhibition and critique. Stop by Institute 193 on March 28 at 7:30pm to hear four brand new plays (written the same day) by playwrights in our community. We'll be sharpening our skills as writers and as audiences by receiving and giving critique on not-yet-precious new works.
We've long since taken notice of a common issue within artistic circles and scenes in Lexington: a distinct lack of meaningful critique. And we can't help but wonder: why is that? Are Lexingtonians uniquely disengaged from the idea of constructive feedback? That can't be... Art necitates critique! And Lexington loves art! Lexington loves artists! ...right?
So we asked, "Is there a fun, accessible, and actionable way to foster and promote an environment of creative and critical theatrical output in Lexington?" And we answered with We Wrote These Plays Today. Affectionately acronymed WWTPT, it's an all-day workshop for playwrights to write, from conception to reality, short plays to be presented as staged readings that same evening. If these works we're examining and dissecting are created for the express purpose of being torn down in order to be built back up, then the shyness we tend to have at critiquing someone else's work is not an obstacle. It's not rude, it's not gauche; it's requested, it's expected.
